About the Organization
The ACLU of Texas is an affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union. Sustained by a handful of paid employees and numerous dedicated volunteers, the ACLU of Texas has been in the forefront of the fight for civil liberties in this state since 1936. The ACLU of Texas advocates personal privacy, freedom from unreasonable searches, religious liberty, humane treatment of prisoners, reproductive choice, and freedom from unconstitutional discrimination. The organization has three modes by which it performs its advocacy, litigation, legislation, and public education. The public education aspect requires people with knowledge of the old-fashioned media, TV, radio, newspapers and magazines, as well as knowledge of the new media, facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.

Description of Duties
The responsibility of the intern is to work in each department with the communications staff and with the host/producer/director of the organization podcast, “Be the Change.” The student will learn about the ways the ACLUTX has of using public media to influence public opinion and effect social change. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and resume to Maida Asofsky, podcast producer.
Learning Objectives:
- Students intending to enroll in internship course must obtain permission from the internship instructor-of-record, their advisor and the internship site supervisor where they intend to participate in the internship.
- Students enrolled in the internship program must complete a minimum of 12 clock hours at the internship site. (may vary from 6-16weeks depending on student internship program).
- Students must submit a weekly, double-spaced report on their internship activities to the university instructor-of-record, their advisor and the internship site supervisor.
This is a non-paid Internship available for college credit only.
