Head Coach: Tim Sykes
Hometown: Grafton, Ohio
Timothy Sykes has been part of the UHD wrestling club team since 2015 as an assistant coach from 2015-2017 and has been the head coach since September 2017. Tim possesses more than fifteen years of wrestling experience as a former wrestler and current coach.
Tim wrestled youth through high school in Northeast Ohio, traditionally one of wrestling’s powerhouse region. From 2005 – 2010, Tim went on to wrestle at Case Western Reserve University. He was a four-year letterman at the NCAA Division III University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Tim became the assistant coach for the UHD wrestling club team back in 2015 under former head coach LeRoy Gardner. In the 2015-2016 season, Coach Tim’s first season as assistant coach, Tim helped coach UHD’s first two NCWA All-Americans in program history. The team went on to tie for fourth place in the NCWA Division II Nationals out of more than 70 teams. In 2017, Tim helped coach the first ever female NCWA All-American for the UHD wrestling club team. In the 2017-18 season, Coach Sykes became the head coach of UHD and produced UHD’s second female NCWA All-American at the 2018 NCWA National Championships.
Assistant Coach: Pat Thomas
Pat Thomas has been a member of the Gators wrestling staff since 2015. He attended Marian Catholic High School and was an Illinois state qualifier. Thomas graduated from Loras College with a degree in Business Marketing where he was a two-time All-American at Loras placing 5th(2002) and 3rd(2003) in the NCAA Division III with a career record of 107-49. Thomas was awarded the teams Most Valuable Wrestler award.
Assistant Coach: Thomas Mancha
Second-year coach at UHD. Graduate and former wrestler for UHD. Started Wrestling for St. Thomas High School and ended high school career as a Prep All-American. Wrestled at a few different schools over the next few years finally landing at UHD. Was an All-American for UHD in 2014 for coach Leroy Gardner and Tim Sykes. Coached wrestling at St. Thomas High School and Paradigm Training Center. Enjoys cooking and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
