Biography

Susan J. Baker is Professor of Art History at UHD. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Kansas, and is an expert in modern American painting between the Wars. Her minor in graduate school was in Baroque art. She has over 25 years of teaching experience in art history. Dr. Baker has taught surveys of art from the Renaissance to the present, as well as courses in American art, 19th century art, Modern art, Baroque art, and Contemporary art. She has recently published on the work of American painter George Tooker, Mark Rothko, and Pablo Picasso. Dr. Baker also serves as curator for the O'Kane Gallery and has been awarded several Houston Arts Alliance grants worth thousands of dollars to support exhibitions.
