Biography

I have taught Math and Stat courses at the freshman, junior, sophomore, and senior levels at UHD since Fall 1999. I have also taught Math and Stat as a visiting lecturer at Ohio State University during 1998-1999, as an instructor at the University of South Florida, during 1997-1998, and as a graduate TA during 1994-1997. At UHD I have been involved in the development of an MS program in Math since Fall 2005, and a 4+1 Math program since Fall 2012. As a member of the MS Department Math and Stat program committees I have participated in courses and programs revision and upgrade final exam preparation, and program assessment. I have directed 6 senior projects, 3 writing projects, 3 directed studies, and 1 undergraduate research project all HIE's. I have been a faculty mentor for the Scholars Academy in CST since Fall 2012, organizing field trips, leading networking and volunteering activities, and supervising FA students.

Research Interest

My research interests are in the fields of approximation theory, special functions, orthogonal polynomials, combinatorics, and computer aided geometric design. I have published 25 research papers in highly ranked and refereed mathematics journals, 2 papers in conference proceedings, and two book chapters since 1998. I have visited City University of Hong Kong 5 times during 2010-2013 as a senior research fellow. I have collaborated and I am collaborating with a number of researchers including 2 leading mathematicians-Professors Mourad Ismail-Univ. of Central Florida and Ron Goldman-Rice University. I have refereed for over 10 math journals. I have used my research to design topics for undergraduate student projects and studies.

Awards

I have twice been a finalist for the UHD Scholarship/Creativity Award-2005 and 2011, and once a recipient of the UHD Faculty Development Leave Award-Fall 2011-spent at City University of Hong Kong. I have received a number of UHD ORCA and FDL grants. My 5 visits at the City University of Hong Kong were funded by research grants from Hong Kong Research Council.
