Dr. Lizette Navarrete-Burks is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership in the Department of Urban Education at the University of Houston-Downtown where she brings years of experience as a core content classroom teacher and leader at the district, state, and national levels to her courses. She joined the University of Houston-Downtown to develop an innovative master's degree in educational leadership. Dr. Navarrete-Burks’ developing lines of research are motivated by learning English as a second language as a child, and later, committing to making learning more equitable for students from historically under resourced communities. Her research interests focus on issues to improve equitable access to high quality opportunities for all students, supporting school leaders to enact more socially just practices, and equity focused innovations in STEM education including leadership. She has presented on educational leadership, issues of equity, and STEM education at local, national, and international conferences and invited speaking engagements.
