Biography

Catherine Howard is a lecturer in the Department of English at UHD. She holds a Ph.D. from Rice University in 20th-century American documentary prose, an MA from Rice in 19th-century British poetry, and a BA from Baylor University in philosophy, German, and English. Dr. Howard has served the UH system for over twenty years, having taught at UHD since 1993. She spent eight years teaching in the English Department and the Honors College at UH and one year at UHCL.

Since 2006 she has taught full time at UHD, where she covers a variety of upper- and lower-division courses for the department as needed. Catherine Howard likes to explore, both in teaching and in research, the intersections among disciplines, genres, and ideas—for example, American versus European modernism, philosophy in literature, ancient influences on current thought, and how dusty old texts affect our everyday lives.
