Biography

Dr. Petts teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in technical communication, and her research interests include usability and policy writing. Prior to joining UHD, Dr. Petts taught writing in the technical professions, writing in the health professions, grant and proposal writing, and composition at North Dakota State University. She also taught courses in technical writing, composition, and Spanish at West Virginia University. Additionally, Dr. Petts has worked as a technical communicator and user experience researcher in the software industry.

Experience Qualifications

Dr. Petts' research focuses on the policy writing process in higher education. In addition, she has co-published an article in Review of Communication on environmental justice. Dr. Petts began teaching at the university level in 2007, and she brings her industry experience into the classroom. Dr. Petts worked as a technical communicator at two software companies in Cleveland, Ohio, and she completed an internship at Microsoft during her doctoral program. She also worked as a user experience researcher in Fargo, North Dakota.
