Biography

Alondra D. Garza (she/her/ella) received her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in 2022. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work at the University of Houston-Downtown. Prior to joining UHD, Dr. Garza was an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida. Her research uses quantitative and qualitative methodologies and focuses on the criminal justice response to gender violence, including intimate partner violence and sexual assault. She is also interested in discretionary decision-making, trauma-informed and culturally relevant interventions, Latina victims of gender violence, and post-victimization behaviors (e.g., reporting and help-seeking choices). Her recent work has appeared or is forthcoming in Crime & Delinquency, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Journal of Experimental Criminology, and Violence Against Women, among others.
