Gator Ally Program Mission and Goals

Gator Ally

The mission of the UHD Gator Ally Program is to empower students, faculty, and staff to build a more inclusive, equitable, and welcoming campus environment for all members of the UHD community, and particularly for LGBTQ members of the campus community. The Gator Ally Program provides training to students, faculty, and staff who wish to become Gator Ally Program members willing both to make themselves available as listeners and as advocates for LGBTQ persons, and to confront the ignorance of homophobia and heterosexism wherever on campus such ignorance is expressed. UHD has a responsibility as one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in the United States to promote acceptance and celebration of all people, regardless of differences.

The specific goals of the UHD Gator Ally Program are:

  1. to provide support to LGBTQ students, faculty, staff and their allies
  2. to confront ignorance, hatred, and apathy related to LGBTQ issues
  3. to provide a safe environment for those students, faculty and staff who do not wish to remain "in the closet."
