The Scene Shop Foreman/Preparator provides assistance in various aspects of live theatre productions and the art gallery.
- Acquires, constructs, loads, unloads, and installs sets and props for theatre productions
- Prepares gallery space for exhibit installations
- Installs and uninstalls art exhibits and lighting
- Loads, packs, and unpacks artwork; creates condition reports
- Schedules and performs on-duty gallery coverage during public hours
- Maintains and repairs all gallery, scene shop, and theatre areas, as well as tools, equipment, materials and theatre stock
- Travels off-campus to pick up or deliver artwork and theatre production items
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Delegation of Work:
- Minimum of 60 hours of college course work
- Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of construction principles and practices;
- Knowledge of how to use power tools;
- Knowledge of the safety practices required in the operation of construction tools and materials
- Basic computer skills; good problem solving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prepare and paint items or structures;
- Ability to drive and operate a truck
Work Location and Physical Demands
Primary Work Location:
- Works in an office environment
- Work is normally performed in a general construction environment, typical for a gallery, theatre, and/or scene shop. Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, but will require the use of power tools, and will require climbing and maintaining balance on ladders. Occasional exposure to noise, vibrations, saw dust, paint fumes, and cleaning products
- Requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping and climbing; adequate speech, hearing, visual acuity, and ability to distinguish color is required;
- May be required to carry, push, pull, drag, or hold medium to heavy weight objects of up to 60lbs
- The use of fingers, both hands, both arms, and both legs is required
- Must have the ability to handle normal construction materials and works of fine art
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends when needed
- May be required to drive and operate a truck. May require occasional travel
