Fall 2020 Semester

Campus and Academic Operations

  • Based on COVID-19 Response Task Force recommendations, the status of UHD operations and classes will be guided by the state of public health.
  • As a state institution, UHD ultimately follows the directives of the Office od the Texas Governor.
  • Presently, UHD’s status remains at Step 1-Red. While it is uncertain whether conditions will improve in August, the University will start the fall semester at Step 1-Red. UHD will remain at “Red” status through at least Sept. 7.
  • Read more information about how each response step will impact campus.
  • If conditions improve significantly, faculty and staff will be notified regarding any changes to campus operations and course delivery. Our goal is to provide one week’s notice prior to changing the response step, to allow faculty, staff and students time to prepare for the change.

Information About Classes

  • At this time, the majority of Fall classes (approximately 80-85 percent) are currently being offered completely online. Classes that are currently scheduled for online delivery will not change in any way and will continue as planned.
  • Approximately 15-20 percent of Fall classes have been scheduled in other formats including face-to-face, hybrid and online interactive. Since UHD enters the fall semester under Response Step 1 - Red, most of these classes will begin the semester online.  The face-to-face aspects of these classes will resume as scheduled once the campus returns to a "Step 2 - orange" status.
  • UHD has also moved most classes at UHD-Northwest online as well as most classes at LSC-Kingwood and LSC-CyFair.
  • Students, faculty and staff will be required to wear face masks.
  • All courses will transition to an online environment following the Thanksgiving break and finals will be delivered online.

Parking & Student Fees

  • UHD has reduced faculty, staff and student parking rates for the fall semester by 50 percent for those who choose to purchase parking.
  • UHD has waived 2 specific student fees for the fall semester:
    • University Center Fee
    • International Education Fee

Information for Faculty & Staff

  • Presently, UHD’s status remains at Step 1-Red. While it is uncertain whether conditions will improve in August, the University will start the fall semester at Step 1-Red. UHD will remain at “Red” status through at least Sept. 7.
  • Read more information about how each response step will impact campus.
  • The campus will remain closed (but accessible to faculty and staff with assistance from the UHD Police Department). Please note faculty and staff must both check in and check out through UHDPD when coming to campus.
  • Most staff members will continue to work remotely. Only essential personnel (as well as those necessary to fulfill specific unit-level needs) will continue to work on campus. Managers have identified staff who will work limited schedules on campus or in hybrid formats throughout this Step 1-Red period to accommodate delivery of core services. Managers have also identified staff who will transition from working remotely to working on campus full-time, or on a hybrid or rotating basis when the University shifts to Step 2-Orange and Step 3-Yellow.  During the week of Aug. 10, Employment Services & Operations (ESO) will inform staff of their respective work locations (remote or on campus) during each color-based step as identified by their supervisor. These work locations are subject to change as conditions or circumstances change or necessity requires it.
    • Emergency Leave will be available until the end of the fiscal year (Aug. 31, 2020).
    • Employees unable to telecommute may be assigned temporary projects.
