What is Power BI?

Power BI is UHD's data visualization system, created with Microsoft Power BI. These dashboards allow UHD decision-makers to easily access pre-built summarized information; it is presented graphically and with filtering features to allow users to make data-informed decisions.

Please note that if more specific information is needed, the eIntelligence tool may best meet that need.

Access to Power BI

Power BI comes with two license options:

Power BI Dashboard Demonstration

  • General User (Does not require License Request Form)
Most UHD users will be this type. The General User is one who will be a consumer of official reports and dashboards made available through the Power BI service (app.powerbi.com).  Campus user will include, faculty, staff, and high-level executives and managers who will be using delivered reports and dashboards to answer complex questions using the available data.
  • Power User
Power Users will be creating dashboards for use by others and will be working with the data models and/or datasets directly through the Power BI desktop.  These users will be able to utilize the full functionality of the Power BI queries, formulas, transformations, and visualizations in order to analyze data and answer business questions.  Users in this group will potentially be able to develop their own reports and dashboards which can then be shared with other users or, if approved, incorporated into the official reporting platform.

To request a Power BI (Power User) license, please fill out the UHD Power BI License Request form.

Information derived from this system should be used for internal decision-making only. For official statistics, please contact the Office of Data Analytics & Institutional Research (DAIR).
