Police Call Boxes

Yellow Police call boxes are located near all entrances/exits to all buildings on campus and at the entrance and exit to the parking garage and satellite parking areas. Police call boxes are also located in all elevators. Police assistance may be requested by activating any call box.

Police Escort Assistance

To ensure the safety of all faculty, staff, students and visitors, the University of Houston-Downtown Police Department provides police escort assistance. To request an escort to your vehicle, visit the Police Department in Suite N118 or notify the police dispatcher via any police call box. This service is available 24 hours a day.

Security Services

A familiar sight to the university community is our security officers. The security officers' presence is most noticed at the Commerce Street and Shea Street Buildings, in the W.I. Dykes Library and in the One Main Building, however, they may be seen all over campus. They are here to reinforce UHD Police Department's commitment to making your educational and work endeavors safe and secure. Suspicious persons and/or activities can be reported directly to the UHD Police Department or any UHD Police Officer.

Motorist Assistance

Did you lock your keys in your vehicle? Do you have a dead car battery? Police personnel will be happy to assist you! To request assistance, contact the Police Department at 713-221-8065 or notify the police dispatcher via any police call box. Vehicles parked in covered parking garages will be accommodated.

Note: Due to safety considerations, UHD Police officers will not jump-start any vehicles in the rain or where water interferes with service.

Lost and Found

The Police Department Records Division (Suite N118) provides lost and found services for the University. All items received by the Records Division are stored for a period of 30 calendar days. After 30 days, unclaimed items are destroyed.

The W.I. Dykes Library, Academic Computing Lab (Room S800) and some other departments operate separate lost and found services. Usually at the end of academic semesters, these departments turn in these items into the Police Department's Lost and Found. All items will be destroyed immediately if kept for an extended amount of time.

Police Records

To request a copy of an accident report, incident report and/or information report, visit the UHD Police Department (Suite N118 in the One Main Building) and complete a Texas Public Information Act Request Form. Processing of the form can take up to 10 business days.

Completed forms are forwarded to the UH System Office of General Counsel for that office to determine, in accordance with applicable Texas law, what, if any, of the information requested will be released. An attorney from the UH System Office will then contact you in the time allowed under Texas law. Requests for copies will not be honored unless the Texas Public Information Act Request Form is signed and completed.

If you have questions or need additional information, please call 713-221-8065.
