Definitions for terminology used in DAIR reports
Term Definition
Academic Year The fall, spring, and summer together are thought of as an academic year; referred to by the year it begins and ends.
CBM Acronym for Coordinating Board Management report; reports submitted to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Certified This designation is used to represent data that is pulled from CBM reports that are created for and finalized by DAIR for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Data is certified after it is complete and accurate and once it is certified it does not change. It may also be referred to as "official" data. (Examples: Certified Fact Sheet, Fact Book)
Current This designation is used in multiple places, including the data warehouse and eIntelligence modules, to represent the most recent data for a semester. For prior semesters, the data is as of the end of the semester. For upcoming/in progress semesters, the data is from the prior day (the data warehouse is refreshed overnight). Please note this data will not match official/certified data as it is updated by changes in the information system. . (Examples: Current Record Set in Course Information PeopleSoft module in eIntelligence; all information represented in the Student Enrollment Dashboard)
First Time in College (FTIC) student A student for whom UHD is the first institution they attend AFTER high school graduation (including those who enter with college credits earned during high school or summer after high school).
Fiscal Year Sept. 1 - Aug. 31; the time frame by which financials are reported.
Full-time FTIC cohort A student who was a full-time, first time in college student in their first fall semester, they remain in the cohort even if they shift to part-time in subsequent semesters.
Full-time graduate student A student enrolled for 8 or more semester credit hours (UHD definition); federal definition uses 9 hours.
Full-time undergraduate student A student enrolled for 12 or more semester credit hours.
IPEDS Acronym for Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System; IPEDS is the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. It is a system of interrelated surveys conducted annually by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
Persistence Student re-enrolled or graduated from UHD in the time frame.
Reporting This designation is used in the data warehouse, and eIntelligence modules, to represent the snapshot of data taken at reporting day (20th day). Please note this data may not match official/certified data as this is a snapshot of data at that point in time; whereas official/certified reflected corrections made to the data after the snapshot was taken. (Example: Reporting Record Set in Course Information PeopleSoft module in eIntelligence)
Retention Student re-enrolled at UHD for a subsequent term.
