Digital Flyer Guidelines
Please refer to these guidelines when creating a flyer for digital signage display.
1 – APPROVAL
In all instances, the flyer needs to be approved by Student Activities before being
posted on the digital signage.
The recommended time frame for submission for approval is 2 weeks prior the event.
The flyer should be displayed on the monitors about a week before the event.
2 – COPYRIGHT
Be mindful to not use copyrighted images without written consent. The best practice to be sure you are not violating any copyright law, and to avoid any penalties, includes:
- Abstaining from downloading copyrighted material from internet, including from sites that claim you can download images for “free”.
- When willing to download an image, first obtain written permission from the author or organization that owns a copyright.
- When using images that fall under Public Domain, make sure you credit the photo source.
- Creating your own image, taking your own photograph.
3 – CONTENT
The flyer needs to contain the following information:
- Organization/Department name
- Title of the Event
- Date(s) and Time(s) of the Event
- Location of the Event
- Brief description of the Event: Keep it short and Simple. Use few words.
- Contact name and information
4 – LAYOUT
The digital signage channels are currently set to display slideshows that contain
.jpg images size 1024x768 pixels (or 14.22 x 10.66 inches), as well as 1920x1080 pixels
(or 26.66 x 15 inches), DPI 72. In all instances the image needs to be horizontal.
In order to achieve the best result, please follow the steps below:
WITH WORD 2013:
- Open a Blank document
- Click on the Page Layout tab
- Select size Letter (8.5x11)
- Select Orientation Landscape
- Set the margins to 0.3
- Create your flyer
- Save as PDF
WITH PUBLISHER 2013:
- Open a Blank document
- Click on the Page Design tab
- Select size Letter (8.5x11)
- Select Orientation Landscape
- Create your flyer
- Save as PDF
WITH POWER POINT 2013:
- Open a blank document
- Select the layout you want (HOME tab, slide section)
- Go to the DESIGN tab
- Go to Slide Size on the right and select 4:3 from the drop down menu
- Create your flyer
- Save as JPEG
WITH IN DESIGN:
- Create a new web document
- Set the dimensions of your new document to Width = 1024 pixels, Height = 768 pixels
- Create your flyer
- Export the graphic to JPEG format (File > Export > JPEG)
- Set quality to High, resolution to 72 pixels per inch
WITH PHOTOSHOP:
- Go to File
- Select New
- Set the dimensions of your new document to Width = 1024 pixels, Height = 768 pixels, and Resolution = 72 pixels/inch.
- Create your flyer
- Save for the Web
- Set quality to Maximum
