Comprehensive Student Success Program (CSSP) Grant Toolkit

Through a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) CSSP Grant in 2011, faculty and staff at UHD worked together in communities of practice to redesign numerous gateway courses, such as English Composition, U.S. History, and College Algebra. This grant allowed for the continuation of gateway course redesign efforts at UHD and expansion to new target courses, including General Biology I and General Chemistry I. Renewal grants to continue CSSP efforts through 2015 culminated with introduction of a flipped classroom model called Team-Based Learning (TBL) and successful implementations of SI integration, study skills instruction, and extended class times to accommodate active learning approaches. These strategies are highlighted the video Active Learning and Gateway Courses which focuses on the General Biology course redesign, A. In 2016, the THECB launched a capstone funding opportunity to create a web resource (i.e. "Toolkit") to document best practices and lessons learned from the CSSP grant course redesign efforts.
