Financial Aid Process Information for Students

The process of applying for financial aid can seem complex. We encourage you to apply early.

You must submit a financial aid application to be eligible for grants, work-study, loans, some scholarships, and other opportunities.

Filing the FAFSA is easy; follow the steps below if you are a U.S. Citizen, U.S. national, or an eligible non-citizen. If you are a Texas resident, but not a U.S. Citizen, U.S. national, or an eligible non-citizen, you can still apply for aid using the TASFA application. Not sure which application to use? Contact the UHD Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Step 1: Apply for a FSA ID. This is needed to electronically sign your FAFSA. If you are a dependent student, your parents should also apply for a FSA ID.

Step 2: Fill out your FAFSA online. UHD's school code is 003612. If you need assistance, click the "Help" box at the top of the page, or call 1-800-4FED-AID.

Step 3:  After you receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), review all of your answers to make sure they are correct. If you need to make corrections, you can go to the FAFSA website. A copy of your Student Aid Report will be sent to UHD to determine your financial aid eligibility.

Once your FAFSA is submitted, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will follow up with you regarding next steps and missing items through your GatorMail email account.
