Jay Zambrano

Javier “Jay” L. Zambrano is a seasoned fundraising professional with over 24 years of work in the higher education and non-profit sectors. He has had the privilege of being part of inspiring advancement teams that have collectively raised over $120 million for capital campaigns, projects, conferences, events, and many other initiatives. His work across the state and on the national level has given him the opportunity to directly raise approximately $35 million, manage teams of exceptional development professionals, and build non-profit and programmatic brands successfully.

In his current role as Vice President for Development at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, he continues to build relationships with donors and alumni and oversees a team of college development officers that bring in support averaging $30 million annually. Before his work in the Rio Grande Valley, Jay served as the Executive Director of the Adelante! U. S. Education Leadership Fund. In this role, he grew a struggling non-profit into a national player in the Hispanic college student professional development/career readiness arena. Jay has also held development posts at Texas Tech’s Foster School of Medicine and Texas A&M University-Kingsville where he was part of the team that secured funding to name a nursing school and key endowments, respectively. He has also led fundraising efforts as the Director of Development at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and served as an Associate Director of Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas A&M International University.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing (International) from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a current member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and has served on various councils at his alma mater. Jay is a proud father of two wonderful children, Victoria Andrea, who is a computer engineering major at the University of California-Riverside, and Nicholas Xavier who is a high school sophomore. Jay is engaged to Ms. Marisol M. Saenz.​
