One of the main goals of the Accelerated Transfer Academy, is to ensure that our transfer students have all the tools they need to identify a career post-graduation, and begin to form networks that will help to advance them within that chosen career. Career Learning Communities (CLC) are a new model within ATA that brings together students with faculty, alumni, and career professionals that can provide mentorship and connection around similar career interests.
Students are sorted into CLCs based on career interest, not based on major. For example, a business student and a communication student may both be interested in advertising. Though their majors are different, the two students would be in the same CLC.
The goal of the CLCs is to provide each ATA Scholar:
- At least one career-related site visit
- One internship opportunity
- Two targeted career talks per semester
- A network of similarly interested peers
CLCs are primarily based on the Texas Education Agencies 16 identified Career Clusters:
