Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects

Welcome to the University of Houston-Downtown ORSP Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects (CPHS) webpage. The University of Houston-Downtown is committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and public service. At the same time, the University seeks to protect the welfare of persons who may be involved in research and training projects in accordance with the federal regulations, 45 CFR 46, and the ethical principles established by the Belmont Report (Belmont Report Historical Archive).

All UHD faculty, staff or students who propose to engage in research activities involving the use of human subjects must have approval prior to the initiation of the project from the CPHS. The CPHS is responsible for safeguarding the rights and welfare of persons participating in research projects, whether funded or non-funded.

Please see Frequently Asked Questions for inquiries involving human subjects research. Human subjects IRB applications and supporting documents should be submitted to the CPHS Chair Dr. Ruth Johnson at humansubjects@uhd.edu.
