Faculty Development Projects Award Program–
The Faculty Development Projects Award Program provides small grants to support activities by tenured and tenure-track faculty and professional librarians to increase the individual and collective faculty agency. Historically, activities supported by the Faculty Development Projects Award Program include those that:
- Support the development of faculty in key areas of faculty life, including, but not limited to:
- Scholarship and creative activities
- Travel to professional meetings
- Innovation & entrepreneurship
- Curriculum, instruction & program development
Awards of up to $7,000 are supported.
Faculty release time is not supported by Faculty Development Projects grants.
Faculty Development Projects Award Program grants must advance the Mission and Vision of UHD, focus on faculty teaching expertise, and have historically not funded student travel and/or participation.
The Faculty Development Projects Award Program represents the commitment of UHD to the development of the faculty, but is not currently mandated or supported by a UHD Policy Statement.
The Faculty Development Projects Committee issues a Call for Proposals in the fall semester of each academic year. Membership on the committee consists of one faculty member, nominated by the academic deans, from each department. The committee elects a chairperson to administrate the call for proposals, review proposals, and recommend proposals for funding to the UHD Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Provost.
Faculty compile the necessary materials to complete an electronic version of the Faculty Development Request Form that is included in the Call for Proposals.
Completed applications are forwarded to relevant Department chairs by the due date listed in the Call for Proposals.
Department chairs convene a departmental review committee to review and recommend any proposals they feel are worthy of funding.
Deans electronically forward completed proposals to the Committee Chair by the due date listed in the Call for Proposals.
The Faculty Development Projects Committee reviews proposals against a rubric to make funding recommendations to the Office of the Provost.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs has historically administrated Faculty Development Projects Awards.
If all available funds for Faculty Development Projects Awards are not distributed in response to the Call for Proposals in the fall semester, a second Call for Proposals may be issued in the spring semester.
Note: The Faculty Development Request form and the rubric utilized to evaluate proposals may be altered from year-to-year by the Faculty Development Projects Committee in order to better serve UHD.
