The UHD "special collections" are really three collections in one:
- Faculty publications: which are books published by the faculty of UHD and are kept in the Rockwell Room in the library
- Masters theses: written by master's degree candidates from the various Colleges
- Rare books: Items of value which document the history of Houston, Texas, and the oil and gas industry
