​STUDENT AFFAIRS LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Award

Four $1,000​ Scholarships. The division of Student Affairs leadership scholarship is to benefit students who work to maintain both their academics as well as further support UHD, through their participation in co-curricular activities, specifically a UHD Student Club and/or Organization.

Interested students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship between the dates of October 2nd through October 16th.  For a complete application students must submit the following:
  • Completed Online Student Affairs Scholarship Application
  • Fall 2017 Course Schedule
  • Proof of UHD Club and/or Organization membership
Incomplete and/or late applications will not be accepted. 

Award notifications will be sent out by November 3rd, 2017

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in at least six credit hours for Fall 2017
  • Have a minimum 2.75 culmulative GPA
  • Active within a UHD student club and/or organizaiton

​UHD MINORITY MALE SCHOLARSHIP SUCCESS PROGRAM

Award

$500​ Book Scholarship

Eligibility

  • First Time in College African-American or Hispanic Male
  • Must commit to 30 community engagement hours for the year 2017-2018
     
  • Must maintain a college grade point average of 2.0.
  • Must maintain full time enrollment status
  • Must participate in all mentoring and leadership sessions​
  • Must enroll in designated cohort day-time first semester and second semester courses which includes Critical Race Theory

WORTHING SCHOLARSHIP

Award

$450 for textbooks (2017 Fall Semester)

Eligibility

  • Must be a declared major
  • Must have completed 60 hours of college credit at UHD at time of application
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.5 or greater
  • Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 hours at UHD in Fall 2017
  • Must be in good standing at the university

​HIGH-IMPACT PRACTICES SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDY ABROAD

Award

Six $500 scholarships are available to students who study abroad in the summer or fall of 2015 or spring 2016. The awards are competitive and will be based upon the following project proposal.

Eligibility

Requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a credit-bearing study abroad program approved by UHD for Summer 2015/ Fall 2015/ Spring 2016
  • Must be a degree-seeking student at UHD
  • Must graduate AFTER May 2015
  • Must return to UHD for the 2015-16 school year
  • Be in good academic, financial and disciplinary standing at UHD
  • Currently have a minimum GPA: 2.50 for undergraduates/ 3.00 for graduates

Deadline

Applications must be submitted in person or via email by May 8, 2015 for summer and fall 2015 or November 1, 2015 for spring 2016.

HIP SCHOLARSHIP FOR USA POWERLIFTING TEAM USA SELECTION

Award

$1000 per student (three awards; awards can be split into a maximum of two per meet)

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled as a full-time UHD student in the Fall or Spring semester preceding the award, as well as during the semester of the meet if the meet takes place during a Fall or Spring semester (Spring 2014, Fall 2014, Spring 2015 are eligible semesters)
  • Must be a degree-seeking student at UHD
  • Must graduate AFTER May 2015
  • Must return to UHD for the 2014-2015 school year
  • Must have been selected for a USAPL Team USA squad
  • Must be a member in good standing of UHD Powerlifting
  • Be in good academic, financial and disciplinary standing at UHD
  • Be currently enrolled full time if the meet occurs during the fall or spring semesters.
  • Currently have a minimum GPA: 2.75 for undergraduates/ 3.00 for graduates

Deadline

Within 30 days of notification of Team USA selection and prior to travel.

UHD POWERLIFTING FRESHMAN RECRUITING SCHOLARSHIP

Award

Varies in availability and amount from year to year.

Eligibility

  • Be accepted and enrolled as a full-time in-coming UHD freshman for a given fall semester.
  • Must be a First Time in College (FTIC) student.
  • Must be a degree-seeking student at UHD.
  • Must have high school powerlifting experience judged to be significant by the UHD Powerlifting Head Coach.
  • Must maintain membership in good standing in UHD Powerlifting beginning with enrollment as a freshman.
  • Must maintain good academic, financial and disciplinary standing at UHD.
  • Must provide evidence to the UHD Powerlifting Head Coach of good character, love of powerlifting, and a commitment to UHD Powerlifting’s goals and vision. The UHD Powerlifting Head Coach will generally determine these qualities by interviews with the lifter, the lifter’s family, the lifter’s coaches, and the lifter’s teammates.
  • Evidence of good academic achievement.
  • Maintain a 2.0 g.p.a. during the freshman year at UHD.
  • In most cases, the award requires Texas residency. Exceptions may occur from year to year.
  • Special consideration will be given to athletes who particularly address the specific roster needs of the team during any particular recruiting season.

Deadline

Submit the following to UHD Powerlifting Head Coach, Dr. John Hudson, as soon as possible during a lifter’s senior year, but no later than April 15:

  • A statement of interest in becoming a member of UHD Powerlifting and being considered for a UHD Powerlifting Recruiting Scholarship. This statement may be submitted via email to hudsonj@uhd.edu

UHD POWERLIFTING Sr. ADELE BRENNAN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Award

Varies from semester to semester depending on the number of qualified applicants. Maximum award is $2,000 for one semester.  Up to five awards may be given per semester.

Eligibility

  • Must be UHD Powerlifting members in good standing in the semester of the award and the semester preceding the award.
  • Must not be on academic probation at the time of application for the award.
  • Must have a minimum GPA. of 2.0.
  • Must have been enrolled for two consecutive semesters immediately preceding the semester of the award (Full-time enrollment in one or more summer sessions will count as one consecutive semester of full-time enrollment.  If a member enrolls part-time in one or more summer sessions or enrolls in no summer sessions, it will neither count as a consecutive semester of enrollment nor will it interrupt the spring-fall consecutive enrollment count.)

Application Process and Deadline

Near the end of each Fall and Spring semester, the Head Coach of UHD Powerlifting will invite members who wish to apply for the Sr. Adele Brennan Academic Achievement Award to obtain their transcripts from the Office of the Registrar or print the online “My Grades” page once before and once after final semester grades are posted, and to then submit these transcripts or “MyGrades” forms to the Head Coach, who will share the transcripts of forms with the committee.  Submission of transcripts of “My Grades” forms is all that is required to apply for the award.  Transcripts themselves need not be official.

Award
$500 per academic year - $250 per semester

Eligibility

  • Student Working in Dept. of Sports & Fitness
  • Minimum 6 hours/semester
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must submit an essay on the benefits of health and fitness opportunities on a college campus

HAMILL VETERAN'S SCHOLARSHIP

The Hamill Foundation is a private foundation organized in 1969 as a nonprofit corporation. The Foundation’s purpose is the support, operation, establishment or advancement of any exclusively charitable, educational, scientific or religious activity. We currently funds grants to over 100 charitable organizations located mainly in the Houston area. The Hamill Foundation was named for its founders Mr. and Mrs. Claud B. Hamill.
Award
Ten non‐renewable $1,500 Scholarships will be awarded for the Fall 2017 term
Eligibility
  • Cannot have received either Hamill Scholarship award,
  • Must be a student enrolled at UHD in at least 12 college credit hours during the Fall 2017 semester,
  • Must be completely accepted as a student through the Office of Admissions prior to application deadline,
  • Transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions to be considered,
  • UHD students currently enrolled must have earned a total of 30 cumulative college credit hours with a minimum of 12 hours earned at UHD with a 2.25 GPA,
  • Transfer students must have earned at least 30 cumulative college credit hours and have a 2.25
