What is UHD Emergency Funds?

Financial assistance for full-time and part-time students who have incurred expenses as a result of COVID-19.

Where is the UHD Emergency Funds coming from?

Funding is from the Emergency Relief Fund authorized by the CARES Act, as well as privately raised dollars available through the University’s Gator Emergency Fund.

Who is eligible for the emergency funds?

Currently enrolled full-time and part-time students (including graduate students) can apply for emergency funds for funding to offset expenses incurred as a result of

How do I apply for the emergency funds?

Students should submit one application to be considered for funding from either the Higher Education Emergency Relief Grants or the Gator Emergency Fund. Please provide accurate information, as applications that are incomplete or have errors will not be considered. The application can be found online here.

Can I receive assistance from both the CARES Act and the Gator Emergency fund?

No. You will only be eligible to receive assistance from one of the funds. To receive assistance from the CARES Act you must be eligible for Federal Title IV aid. If you are not eligible for the CARES Act you may be considered for assistance from the Gator Relief Fund.

Can I use the funds I receive to pay my past and or current balance with the University?

If you receive assistance from the Gator Emergency Fund (Gator Relief Award), those funds will be applied to your past due balance if you have one otherwise the funds will be disbursed to you. If you receive funds from the CARES Act (UHD Financial Assistance), those funds cannot be automatically applied to past due balances or tuition charges. The funds are disbursed to the student directly and may be used to meet their specific needs.

How will I know if I was approved for the emergency funds?

You will receive an email confirming your approval. You will see the award listed under your spring 2020 awards. The award will be listed either as Gator Relief Award or UHD Financial Assistance.

How long does it take to know if I have been approved for the emergency funds?

Please allow up to 10 business days for review. If eligible, the award will appear on your financial aid awards page. If not approved within 10 business days, your application will remain on file and continue to receive consideration for future campaigns.

Is applying for the emergency funds the same as applying for assistance for summer?

No. Summer financial aid is a separate process. To qualify for summer financial aid to be used to pay for tuition and fees, you must have a complete 2019-2020 FAFSA or TASFA application on file, meet the Satisfactory Academic Requirements for financial aid, and be enrolled at least halftime for summer.

Will receiving emergency funds impact my eligibility for financial aid?

No. Receiving emergency funds will not affect your financial aid eligibility or the awards you have been awarded.

How much will I receive if approved for the emergency funds?

The award amount will depend on the availability of funds and demonstrated financial need. Priority will be given to full-time students. The awards will vary between $300 and $1500.
