Why I Give

"I give because, growing up in the surrounding area, I learned early on that support and encouragement were essential in my success. I believe it's important to support my community. If we are to be successful, we need to support our students and the faculty/staff giving campaign makes that possible."
- Lorena Sanchez, Purchasing/HUB Coordinator

"It has been my privilege to work with numerous dedicated and inspiring colleagues during my tenure at UHD. Several of these persons now have scholarship funds set up in their memory, including June Wood, Susan Ahern, Elias Deeba and Ongard Sirisaengtaksin. I always feel blessed to contribute to these funds and honor the memory of the outstanding educators who played such an important role in my professional life and the growth of the institution."
- William Waller, Associate Dean in the University College

"I give because I want to remember and honor people who touched my life greatly. I give to Cancer research group to remember and honor my father who passed away from lung cancer. I give to Dr. Elias Deeba and Dr. Ongard Sirisaengtaksin memorial scholarship funds to honor them and keep their belief and legacy alive."
- Mitsue Nakamura, Lecturer of Mathematics and Statistics

"I give because giving even the most modest donation provides the means to our community to help improve the quality of life of those most vulnerable."
- Debra Shouldice, Parking Technician, University Business Services

"I give to make a personal contribution to our departmental scholarship funds. I like knowing my money is going directly to a student to help them buy books or pay tuition."
- Colin Dalton, Assistant Professor Urban Education

"The cost of a college education continues to grow, and the severity of the financial burden is growing. Those who have been fortunate enough to be educated by the college and university system need to help make education a reality to those who are seeking an education."
- Houston S. Brown, Lecturer of Chemistry

"I give to UHD for the same reason that I work here -- to support UHD's mission of offering education and opportunity to students of all backgrounds. At UHD, my work and my contribution can change people's lives. I have the chance to make a difference every day."
- Pat Ensor, Executive Director of Library Services

"I give to help create opportunities for our diverse student body."
- Whitney Morgan, Assistant Professor, Marilyn Davies College of Business

"I give because I am a first generation graduate and scholarships helped finance my education. Knowing that I can make a difference in someone's educational dreams and goals, like others did for me, is rewarding."
- Jacqueline K. Trahan, Coordinator, Student Affairs

"I give because I received. I was in the first generation in my immediate family to attend college and receive a degree. In the six years that followed my high school graduation, I earned a BS and an MBA. The cost of those two degrees was borne by my parents, my student loans and my work-study, as well as grants and scholarships made possible by any number of people who never knew my name, never met me or saw my face, and never knew the results of their monetary gift. I, on the other hand, will always be grateful for their generosity and appreciative of the doors that were opened for me because of those two degrees."
- Mary Cook, Director for Risk Management and Compliance

"I give because I like the idea that somewhere someone is getting a boost based on my donation. It is my random act of kindness and helps me be the person that I think I am."
- Grace Davila, Director of Technical Services
