UHD Faculty and Staff

UHD faculty scholars and staff members are committed to student success and excellence in teaching, research and service.

The University has nearly a thousand employees including 570 full- and part-time instructors. UHD offers students small classes with an average of 19 students per faculty member. Students enjoy direct access to faculty members and more individualized instruction.

Many UHD faculty and staff members have been recognized with awards and other honors which is a testament to their expertise and commitment.

UHD faculty maintain close contact with community businesses, organizations and other entities so classes include up-to-date information and appropriate student projects.

Anisul Islam

UHD's Award-Winning Faculty Series

Meet Anisul Islam

Hard work, integrity, and a passion for students is what Anisul Islam, a University of Houston-Downtown economics professor, values most in his professional life.

"I love working with students, especially at UHD where many students are first generation college students like me. This is a great motivator for me and I am always available to them," Islam said.

His many accomplishments demonstrate his desire to serve and assist students. He founded the International Business degree program and the study abroad program in the UHD College of Business, and created several student organizations at UHD, including the International Business Association. Islam also serves as a mentor, faculty advisor and degree coordinator within the college.
