Blackboard Learn: Add Media
The types of media you can have in Blackboard Learn include audio files, images, and videos.
Create a Media Content Area
-
- Log into Blackboard and enter the course.
- Make sure that Edit Mode is set to ON at the top right-hand corner of the page.
- You can add media to an existing content area, or create a new one. Let’s create a
new content area called “Media.” To do this, click the plus sign at the top left of
the course navigation box, and select Content Area.
- In the box, type a title, make available, and click Submit.

5. The “Media” content area will appear at the bottom of the course navigation menu. Click its title.

6. Once inside the empty “Media” content area, click the Build Content button. Here we will add Audio, Image, and Video.
Add an Audio File
- From the Build Content button, click Audio. Give it a name and browse for the audio file on your computer (i.e. MP3, RA, WAV, etc).

2. The audio options available are to auto start the file upon opening it, and looping it continuously or upload a transcript.

4. The Audio file will display as a small audio player on the page, allowing students to click pause/play and change the volume. They can also download the file using the link below.
Add an Image
- From the Build Content button, click Image. You may browse to find the file, type a name, type ALT text (a description of the image used by screen readers for the blind), and the long description is optional.

2. The image options include changing the dimensions, adding a border, and making the image a link.

3. Scroll down and click Submit.

4. The Image will display as an object on the page.
Add a Video
- From the Build Content button, click Video. Browse through your computer for a video file (i.e. WMV, MPEG, AVI, M4P, etc) or you may browse the YouTube mashups. Give it a name.

2. The video options include choosing the size of the video, auto starting upon opening the video page, and looping continuously.

3. Scroll down and click Submit.

4. The Video displays as an object on the page with a play/pause button, stop button, and volume control.
