Blackboard Announcements

UHD's Blackboard service is hosted by Blackboard, rather than hosted by on-premise servers.  This licensing is called Software as a Service (SaaS.)  System updates happen automatically, usually weekly.  Updates should not cause the system to become unavailable, or otherwise affect user sessions. The goal is for UHD's Blackboard to be available 365 days per year, 24 hours per day.
Blackboard maintains a page showing the status of their services and scheduled maintenance.  Some of the services listed, such as Collaborate, are not licensed by UHD and so do not apply. Outages for third-party tools such as Turnitin, Panopto, and VoiceThread will not be included in Blackboard's list.


Blackboard/ Canvas - AWS Outage

Description: Blackboard, Canvas, and some third-party services are currently under the impact of an AWS outage.

Announcement:​   As of 3:11pm on June 13, 2023 some services are unavailable or may have degraded performance​.

  • Blackboard​​
  • Canvas
  • VoiceThread
  • McGraw Hill
  • Wiley
  • Respondus
  • Panopto and other services

Be Sure to Update LockDown Browser 

Description: Many of LockDown Browser's Known Issues are likely to be fixed by updating your software. Updating your personal browser should resolve the issue for exams that don't require Respondus. In the case of Lockdown Browser, students will need to update their browser by following the steps detailed here: How to update LockDown Browser.

Recurring Announcement

From 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM each Friday, Blackboard may be unavailable (this is the regular weekly maintenance time). During this time you may not be able to log onto Blackboard and access information in your courses.
