Blackboad Move to SaaS

A new and improved version of Blackboard is on the way! Blackboard Learn is being upgraded to the Software as a Service deployment option — commonly referred to as Blackboard SaaS. Currently, the University of Houston-Downtown hosts and manages Blackboard on servers located on campus, but with SaaS, Blackboard will be hosted and managed remotely on cloud servers. This equals better service and infrastructure for our learning management system.  This upgrade is the same Blackboard you already know and use delivered on modern cloud computing technology. More information to come.

Chrome 80 Update and Mediasite Playback Issues

Chrome 80 introduces a change that may prevent playback of Mediasite content that is embedded in other webpages, such as within Blackboard. If you are using Chrome 80 and receiving and error message of "Your playback ticket is not valid for this session", please follow the instructions below to change a Chrome setting. After changing the setting, refresh the webpage and the content should play back normally.

Solution:

  1. In Chrome's address bar, go to chrome://flags
  2. In the "Search flags" search box, type "samesite"
  3. Set "SameSite by default cookies" to "Disabled"
  4. Set "Cookies without SameSite must be secure" to "Disabled"

Turnitin Incompatibility Issue

A known issue has been identified with Turnitin and the Safari browser. During file submissions in the Turnitin application the file upload will get stuck and fail to upload. In order to successfully upload Turnitin assignments we recommend using an up to date version of Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.

Recurring Announcement

From 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM each Friday, Blackboard may be unavailable (this is the regular weekly maintenance time). During this time you may not be able to log onto Blackboard and access information in your courses.
