Protecting the health and safety of every person at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is of paramount importance, and it is a continuous work in progress. The UHD Laboratory Safety Manual (LSM) constitutes written standard operating procedures designed to ensure;
laboratory operations are carried out in a manner that protects all persons from harmful exposures associated with hazardous chemicals, microbial, biological and general laboratory hazards, as well as,
compliance with state and federal regulations.
General and Chemical Safety sections of this manual were taken from other safety manuals available online including one from TAMU – Arkansas.
Biological Safety sections were taken from the CDC's published Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories Guidelines.
Much of the information in the field safety section came from “Safety Guidelines for Field Research,” Office of Environment, Health & Safety, University of California, Berkeley.
