Job Summary

The Supervisor, Electrical manages the activities and personnel of electrical crafts within the university, supporting maintenance, renovations, and special projects, as well as new construction. The Supervisor provides electrical consultation services and electrical job estimates to department project managers and in response to client inquiry requests.

Duties

  • Supervises all electrical functions of all buildings, including monitoring crew job performance
  • Disseminates and monitors all electrical service work orders
  • Revises crew members sign-in logs daily
  • Approves requests for time off
  • Purchases materials required for maintaining all buildings electrical services and for new projects
  • Meets as required with supervisors, vendors, and contractors to gather and relay all information to the crew and to ensure all jobs are performed to the highest standard

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8000 hours of electrical school

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Journeyman Electrician License is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Strong electrical knowledge; knowledge of the electrical code.

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office; strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

Abilities:

  • Ability to supervise a team;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an inside and outdoor environment

Physical Demands:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. Work involves occasional exposure to demolition and construction sites, and elements such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, and dust
  • Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching
  • May be required to work in a confined space, in a high, dangerous place, or be exposed to vibration
  • May occasionally be exposed to hazardous driving conditions and work near moving mechanical parts
  • May on rare occasions be exposed to potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents or chemicals
  • May be exposed to the loud noises of a construction site, and of chillers, generators, motors, and grinders
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on a ladder. Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 50lbs.
  • May be required to drive or operate the university's vehicle
  • Position is on call 24 hours a day for electrical incidents
