Job Summary

The Storage Systems Administrator II administers and maintains all storage, backup, and recovery systems and related infrastructure for the university.

Duties

  • Installs, configures, and monitors the performance of the storage, server, backup, and datacenter environmental systems, including SAN switches and NAS clusters
  • Troubleshoots and repairs the storage, server, backup, and datacenter environmental systems.
  • Protects and secures data for mission-critical applications
  • Installs, configures, and administers mission-critical servers
  • Assists other staff as required with network, Windows, Linux, security, and other tasks
  • Researches potential new systems

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Associate's degree, vocational certificate, or sixty (60) hours of completed college course work (work experience can be considered in lieu of education requirements)

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • Must maintain a valid, current driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Experience with Dell Poweredge servers and storage , Lenovo servers and storage, Cohesity and Brocade equipment is preferred

  • Knowledge of storage area network protocols, and the related trends, issues, and accepted practices

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. Work involves occasional exposure to elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching. May, on rare occasions, be exposed to vibration or be required to work in a confined space, near moving mechanical parts, or in a high, dangerous place
  • May, on rare occasions, be exposed to the risk of electric shock or to potentially hazardous or cancer-causing chemicals
  • May occasionally be exposed to the loud noise of servers an data center equipment
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs
  • May be asked to respond to problems or provide service after hours
  • Expected to carry and respond to cell phone at all times
