Job Summary

The Collections Coordinator Librarian coordinates projects, defines processes, evaluates outcomes, and helps make decisions related to the selection and acquisition of physical and electronic materials, so that the library can fulfill its role of organizing and making accessible the collections of materials needed to support the curriculum, research, and student-success missions of the university.

Duties

  • Coordinates, trains, mentors, leads, and collaborates with librarians in meetings, projects, and working groups to make decisions and complete tasks (such as budgeting, selection, evaluation reports, assessments, removal, and surveying faculty) needed for the library to acquire and manage collections of physical and electronic materials.
  • Supervises staff and manages processes for the ordering and receiving of materials and other special projects.
  • Conducts meetings and annual evaluations; approves time reports.
  • Defines and evaluates policies, processes, and procedures related to library acquisitions and collections.
  • Gathers and reports on statistics about library acquisitions and collections.
  • Provides reference research assistance to students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons; serves as a subject librarian and faculty liaison with duties including collection development through the selection and marketing of library resources.
  • Participates in online and face-to-face in library events and activities as required, providing outreach to students and faculty, as well as offering students healthy options for support and stress relief through non-academic engagements.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from a University accredited by the American Library Association.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • None required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of acquisitions and collection management procedures and related trends, issues, and accepted practices.

Skills:

  • Strong technical proficiency, particularly in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, analytic reporting tools, integrated library systems, electronic databases, and web-based tools;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office and library environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks. Must have the ability to move items of up to 30lbs.
