Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Supplemental Instruction (SI) is responsible for managing the Supplemental Instruction Program operations of the Academic Support Center. The Assistant Director program functions include recruiting, training, supervision, program development, course-based resource generation for learning support, and marketing and outreach to the university community.

Duties

  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates performance, and provides ongoing professional development for Supplemental Instruction Leaders
  • Develops, refines, and implements plans for program expansion into new courses while simultaneously sustaining the current scope of offered courses
  • Creates promotional materials (print/electronic), collaborates with the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) to develop online interactive components and content to enhance student engagement and to increase the usage of services offered
  • Works with external vendors and Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative Supplemental Instruction (SI) models, such as online and asynchronous services; works with TTLC to provide Blackboard access to SI Leaders and ensures Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are knowledgeable of technologies used in their assigned class (Blackboard, MyMathLab)
  • Monitors class and study session attendance and tracks work hours of each Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders and approves bi-weekly time each pay cycle
  • Prepares and maintains quantitative and qualitative reports and statistics through utilization and grade reports as well as student and SI Leader surveys and faculty evaluations
  • Creates budgets for Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders staffing, activities, and monitors budget and expense reports regularly
  • Collaborates with Academic Support Center Director, University College Dean and Associate Dean, academic departments, and various units to design, execute and improve services

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in related field (i.e., natural sciences, mathematics, or statistics)

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • None required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in related field (i.e., natural sciences, mathematics, or statistics)
  • Knowledge of Supplemental Instruction model, certification, regulations, and training
  • Experience working with EAB Navigate (Student Success Collaborative)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of SI model in order to train and monitor SI leader performance. Minimum basic content competency in each target subject matter (i.e., math, science, history). Excel, Peoplesoft, Blackboard

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong people management and administrative skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to use computer software and the ability to learn new software; ability to hire and train faculty and staff; ability to gain CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) Certification.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment.

  • Work is performed in a typical, comfortable interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks.
