Scope of Responsibilities

At UHD, Ms. Montalbano serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer and Affirmative Action Officer for all areas within the University's Employment Services and Operations (ESO) division, including Employment, Compensation, Benefits, Organizational Development and Training, Talent Management, Payroll, Personnel Record Management, Employee Relations, Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity compliances. Within those areas, she is responsible for directing a staff of 16 employees to effectively plan, design, develop, implement and administer human resources programs and services for approximately 2,000 UHD employees. Ms. Montalbano's additional responsibilities include overseeing the implementation and administration of policies, practices and systems of internal control to comply with federal, state and other legal reporting requirements. She also directs the University's employee relations programs and activities as well as coordinates employee relation issues with the Office of General Counsel.

Educational Qualifications

Ms. Montalbano earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Puerto Rico. Her certifications include: Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Six Sigma Green Belt and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Institute Management System and Incident Command System Training certificates IS 100, IS 200, IS 300, IS 700 and IS 800.

Professional Experience

Ivonne Montalbano has more than 30 years of higher education experience. Throughout the past 12 years, she has been a strategic partner operating as a key member of the senior management team. In this role, she's provided leadership and oversight to the human resources division. Her broad-based experience also includes work in finance and operations, academic and student affairs, overseeing academic centers and constituent relations within the President's division.​
