Scope of Responsibilities

At UHD, Dr. Lyons is responsible for working with faculty, staff, administrators and students to carry out the University's vision as defined by the UHD Strategic Plan.  He maintains faculty-student engagement with a focus on student recruitment, retention and graduation rates. Dr. Lyons motivates and works with faculty and staff to assure that the department is compliant with all University, University of Houston System, state and federal policies, procedures and laws (UH Biosafety, TCEQ, EPA, OSHA, etc.). He manages the NS budget, oversees the hiring and quality of faculty and solves faculty, staff and student problems in the department.

Educational Qualifications

Dr. Lyons earned his Master of Science as well as Doctor of Plant Pathology with a focus in fungal pathogens from the University of Georgia.

Professional Experience

Dr. Lyons is a tenured faculty member with UHD.  He has 20 years of experience teaching fungal biology, general biology and cell and molecular biology. Dr. Lyons has 11 published research articles, 5 review publications, 32 poster presentations and a research program in fungal ecology and biology.
