Scope of Responsibilities
At UHD, Dr. Johnson provides leadership to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and advocacy for UHD faculty and staff in research, scholarship and creative activities. He also coordinates and strategizes ways to meet the University's strategic goal of increasing research, scholarship and creative activities; administrates and grows faculty support programs; participates in the shared governance policy making process and showcases faculty scholarship and creativity. In addition, Dr. Johnson serves as the primary research contact for UHD, the University's integrity officer, an institutional official for research compliance and as a member of the Provost's Cabinet and Dean's Council.
Dr. Johnson earned his Doctor of Biochemistry and Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Houston. He has additional certification in Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program Training, Protection of Human Subjects (IRB Committee – Basic/Refresher) and Responsible Conduct of Research.
Dr. Johnson's experience includes 12 years of work as professor of biology and biochemistry at UHD. His experience also includes work in grantsmanship for external funding; funded program execution; policy development ant revision; participation and leadership in shared governance and service and leadership on institutional and system compliance committees for the protection of human subjects, biosafety and chemical safety and leadership in University planning and budget development.
