The University of Houston-Downtown Public Safety Liaison program was proposed in 2015 to fulfill the role of fire wardens and assist law enforcement, environmental health and safety, and emergency management during the phases of incident management. Composed of volunteers, the program was formally launched in the fall of 2016. Public Safety Liaisons, known as PSLs, support the Department of Emergency Management and Fire Safety during systems tests and evacuation drills. With a variety of training opportunities, a PSL can elect to offer services beyond support during drills and evacuation guidance.
