GRADUATE COUNCIL FY22
Charge
Review all current Graduate Policies to reaffirm (for SACSCOC FYIR)
Develop a policy on graduate curricular structures, perhaps parallel to existing policy on majors/minors, taking into consideration the following types of issues:
Minimum # hours for degree
How/whether it is possible to get a “double masters” degree—how many hours may double-count?
Can/should classes overlap between certificates? Is that affected by size of certificate or whether they are “stackable” toward a full degree?
Cross-referencing 4+1 language from undergraduate policy
Considerations of faculty support needed for graduate programs in terms of credentialing, etc.
How graduate programs are differentiated from undergraduate curriculum
Work with Admissions and Registrar and Provost’s Office to define and document pathways for students in the following scenarios:
- Those who “soft start” in a certificate but then transition to a full degree
As part of this discussion, please consider the following:
the application process and costs
how many hours can “transfer” among graduate credentials
how we ensure that students initiate and enter the request for a credential into the system for proper reporting and recording
Work with Admissions and Registrar on ways to streamline transcript sharing with grad programs for students who are about to graduate or have graduated from UHD
