First Generation

Committed to Student Success
What is a First-Generation college student?
First-Generation college students are defined as students whose parents or guardians have not attended college. Being first-gen means you are the first one in your family (even if you had a brother or sister attend) to attend college.
UHD First-Gen welcomes first-generation college students to UHD and introduces them to programs, resources, and activities designed to help students as they transition into college and to successfully complete their degrees. Research on first-generation college students shows that Being first-gen is a very big accomplishment. We recognize that being first-gen Can be challenging but you will also experience unique opportunities.
The UHD First-Gen program wants to help you through those challenges and help you get involved in campus activities that are fun but also present unique leadership opportunities. As a University College (UC) student during your first year, you will be introduced to programs that offer tutoring, peer mentors, academic advising, and other resources important during your years at UHD.
University College has engaged in a campus-wide collaboration to offer you programs and resources to offer you academic support, social opportunities, campus involvement, and career readiness as you meet your goal of graduating. Our goal is to help you realize your dream of becoming a First-Gen graduate student or First-Gen professional.
Start with us, start with UC.
