I am an Associate Professor in the Urban Education Department at the University of Houston-Downtown. I teach a number of Special Education Courses to future Urban General Education Teachers. In addition, I also teach Educational Research in our Master's Program. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I focus on developing pre-service general education teachers' conceptual knowledge of special populations in PED 3301. My courses are technology driven, student-centered/directed, interactive and collaborative courses - centered by high impact service learning. My teaching and research interests focus on the impact service-learning has in shaping future general education teachers' attitudes towards special populations, literacy development, and building inclusive teaching practices.
