Hsiao-Ming Wang will be a featured speaker at the Formosa Modern Criminal Justice Seminar in Taipei, Taiwan. He will present his paper, "Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism: An International Security Perspective".
Heather Goltz has been selected to serve on the Planning Committee for the 14th Annual Disparities in Health in America: Working Toward Social Justice Workshop. The Summer Workshop will be co-sponsored by UHD and will take place at UHD on June 20 – 25.

Kevin Buckler will present his paper, "Political Discourse on Ferguson, MO: An Analysis of Political Cartoons" at the Academy of Criminal Justice Science Conference. Kevin Buckler will present his paper, "Interviews with Medical Examiners: The Role of Gender in Professional Adaptation" at the Academy of Criminal Justice Science Conference. Mike Cavanaugh, Kevin Buckler, and Barbara Belbot, along with James Frank – University of Cincinnati, and Craig Hemmens, Washington State University, will host a roundtable on the Journal of Criminal Justice and Law: A Discussion of Need, Direction, and Submission Guidelines. This journal is housed at UHD and our colleagues are the Co-Editors of the journal. Janice Ahmad, Ashley Blackburn, Rebecca Pfeffer, Larry Karson, and Jace Valcore will meet with the UHD Retention Task Force chaired by Lisa Morano and will provide input into the guidelines for the Faculty Mentor Program.
The Advising Center had their first small group sessions with students from Criminal Justice and Urban Education. The sessions were well received and this new initiative will be very beneficial to our students.
The Administrative Staff Forum held their first monthly meeting with the new Department Business Administrators. This promises to be a powerful working group for problem solving and process development.
