Webb Historical Society

Webb Historical Society seal The Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society is a statewide student organization, dedicated to instilling in its members an appreciation of Texas history and culture by organizing conferences, field trips, lectures, and research projects.

The University of Houston-Downtown chapter has maintained continuous operation since its founding and has won both individual and chapter awards. Individual essay winners have had articles published in Touchstone, the society’s academic journal.

The chapter participates in several community activities, including:

  • Research and identification of Houston historical sites for placement of Texas Historical Commission markers
  • Voter registration of UHD students
  • Annual monetary and food collections for Houston Food Bank
  • An annual golf tournament
  • Attendance at the Texas State Historical Association convention and fall conference
  • Field trips to San Antonio, Fredericksburg, Castroville, Anahuac, and other local cities

The University of Houston-Downtown Webb Society is open to all students, regardless of major, race, or creed, who wish to know more of their state and region's rich past and to participate in its preservation.

The UHD chapter and the principal organization are affiliated with the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA). Each chapter is autonomous within the statewide organization and operates under its own charter.
