Jean DeWitt (B.A. University of Wisconsin, M.A. and Ph.D. University of Maryland) is an Associate Professor at the University of Houston-Downtown and Director of Community Engagement. She has been at the university for 22 years, teaching communication courses, presenting at national and international conferences, and publishing in journals such as The Quarterly Journal of Speech, Communication Quarterly, Communication Education, and The Journal of Social Capital. During her years at UHD Dr. DeWitt received a Fulbright to Mauritania and Mauritius. She has also taught in Denmark. DeWitt has sustained a record of volunteerism with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP), Houston Hospice, and as a pastoral caregiver at St. Luke's Hospital (The Woodlands). DeWitt was recently selected as the Director for the Office of Community Engagement and serves on the Advisory Board of Texas Campus Compact.
