The College of Humanities and Social Sciences Advising Center’s mission is to help students understand the requirements and steps to take to earn a bachelor’s degree in humanities or social sciences.

The CHSS Advising Center provides services that engage, inform, and educate our students towards reaching their academic goals. CHSS advisors assist in recruitment, retention, and graduation initiatives that create strong academic and career readiness.

We encourage our students to meet with your Academic Advisor 1-2 times a semester to ensure you are path towards your graduation goal. 

Advising is more than course selection we are to provide support in the following areas:

  • Post baccalaureate plans
  • Mentorship
  • Graduation Planning

Type of Appointments Offered by CHSS Advising

CHSS Advising offers several different ways for you to meet with a college academic advisor.  Whether you decide to schedule a physical, virtual, or phone appointment, know that we are committed to providing you with excellent student support services.  Our advisors are committed to your academic success. 

All our appointments are 30 minutes to provide you with enough time to discuss academic matters with your advisor.  If you need additional time, and schedule permitting, see our office staff in S1001 to assist. 

Face-to-Face (physical) appointments: A face to face appointment consists of the advising session being conducted in the advisors office during their schedule time. There is no need to download software. The following will take place if you schedule a face-to-face appointment:

  1. You will check in for your appointment in S1001
  2. You will be directed to the lobby area until your appointment
  3. The CHSS academic advisor will come to the lobby to accompany you to their office to begin the session.

Advising Appointments

Virtual appointment (30mins): A virtual appointment consists of an advisor and student advising session that utilizes our ZOOM software. There is no need to download any software and the following will take place if you schedule under virtual:

  1. You must have access to a computer.
  2. A secure link will be emailed to your GATORMAIL directly from CHSS Advising that will allow you to access your appointment at your scheduled time.

Benefits of virtual appointment

  1. See your advisor!
  2. Your advisor is able to share screens with you and review in more detail your degree audit report.
  3. Questions/concerns can be addressed in a quicker manner.
  4. Less room for miscommunication

Phone appointment (30mins): A phone appointment consists of an advisor and student advising session that is conducted via phone. The following are directions for a phone appointment:

  1. Must have a working and clear phone line
  2. Student is responsible for calling the advisor at their scheduled time.

Benefits of phone appointment –

  1. Convenient for quick advising.
  2. No computer needed.
