Tom is a 1966 graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He served in the United States Air Force, from February of 1967 to October of 1970, achieving the rank of Captain before leaving active duty. Before entering the electronics distribution business in 1975, he was President of Lone Star Beer, Inc. of Corpus Christi and an account executive with Merrill Lynch. He spent twenty-two years as President and owner of Douglas Electronics, Inc. a Corpus Christi based industrial electronics distributor serving the central and south Texas marketplace. He moved to Houston in early 1996 to assume the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Harrison Electronics, Inc., a Houston based distributor with offices throughout the Southwest. Following the sale of Harrison in 1999, he assumed the position of Corporate Asset and Operations Manager for Kent Electronics. He continued in a similar capacity with Avnet Electronics after they acquired Kent in March of 2001. He founded the T.A. Jackson Group, a manufacturers representative firm serving the electronics industry, in December of 2002.
Tom began his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 2006 when he entered the Certificate in Accountancy Program (CAP) at the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. After completing the requisite upper-level accounting courses, passing the CPA examination, and earning the required one-year supervised experience, Tom was awarded his license by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in June of 2009. Shortly thereafter he launched his public accounting firm, T.A. Jackson CPA, LLC.
His role as an educator began with Houston Community College (HCC) when he was recruited as an adjunct instructor in 2010. His love of sharing the accounting profession with the next generation of leaders led to his pursuit of and earning a Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) again through the Bauer College of Business. Shortly after earning that degree in 2014 he also joined the faculty of Lone Star College and subsequently, the University of Houston-Downtown. Today, he serves our students, University, and community as a Lecturer faculty member of the Accounting and International Business Department within the Marilyn Davies College of Business.
