Dr. Coy earned his doctorate in management science from the University of Maryland in 1998. He teaches graduate courses in decision modeling and undergraduate courses in operations management and quality management. Prior to his appointment at UHD, he worked for over four years as Manager of Operations Research at Continental Airlines (now part of United Airlines). Dr. Coy is also a culinary-trained chef. He worked for 18 years as a chef or manager at a number of hotels and restaurants in the eastern half of the U.S. Dr. Coy has published over 25 research papers. His research interests include decision modeling, supply chain management, combinatorial heuristic design, artificial neural networks, operations management, and small business management.

Dr. Coy has published research papers in combinatorial optimization, artificial neural networks, airline management, quality management, small business management, fisheries management, fuzzy logic, business pedagogy, and supply chain management. His current research interests include artificial intelligence applications, supply chain management, and quality management.
