My Favorite Thing about UHD: At UHD, administrators and professors know your name; they connect with the students. Professors here want you to succeed. If you are willing to do the work, they will make time to help you accomplish your goals. They understand that the students are diverse, and we all have individual challenges and responsibilities. They want to see you succeed.
Discovering My Passion: I have always been fascinated by history. I especially love studying Latin American cultures since that's my heritage. It's an interesting way to learn about people's lives and cultures.
Points of Pride: I was selected as the 2013-2014 Outstanding Underclassman of the Year for History. I was surprised that I was chosen, and that the faculty considered me! It was a great feeling after all the hard work I had done. I'm doing something that I love, and that's a major accomplishment.
Greatest Challenge: I'm a DREAMER. I was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and my family migrated to Houston when I was 2 years old. As immigrants, socio-economic class was a major barrier for my family. There was a disparity between the life my parents wanted to give me and the resources they had. Education was always the number one priority in my family. That's what motivates me; I have the opportunity of a lifetime here, and I want to show my parents that their hard work paid off.
Future Plans: I plan to go to graduate school, and then law school. I'd love to go on to work for LULAC – the League of United Latin American Citizens.
