Welcome to the Office of the Dean of Students
Welcome to the University of Houston Downtown (UHD)! It is my pleasure to welcome you to our community serving as your Dean of Students. I have the pleasure and privilege of working with a dynamic and diverse student body in the heart of Downtown Houston. This great city is home to an engaging faculty and staff committed to your student success. We pride ourselves on creating major opportunities for not only our students, but our community at large. The talent of our faculty coupled with small class sizes create an exceptional environment for face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line learners. Connecting students with a career path including service learning, internships, and leadership development experiences is a priority for creating global citizens that will make an impact on our world.
I come from an immigrant household, growing-up in the Kansas City, KS area. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology/Life Sciences from Kansas State University, a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University, a Master of Public Administration in Emergency and Crisis Management from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), and a Doctoral Degree in Learning and Leadership from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). I most recently served as Associate Dean of Students at UTC. I was named Professor of the Year in April 2012. I am grateful to share my experiences with the UHD community.
In my role as Dean of Students I oversee the development and improvement of the offices of student life, and the integration of the unit into the University’s efforts to improve student success. Specifically, I supervise the offices of Student Activities and Events, Disability Services, Veterans Services, Sports and Fitness, Student Health and Counseling Services, Center for Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Student Conduct, International and Study Abroad Programs, and the Career Development Center. I truly believe I have one of the best jobs in higher education. Each and every day is an adventure!
It takes a number of mentors and colleagues to help me learn and grow throughout my leadership journey. If I can help you in any way, please reach out to me. I would love to share a cup of coffee or a conversation with you regarding your student experience and goals. I am very proud to share the UHD experience with you. Go Gators!
