University of Houston-Downtown graduate and police officer for eight years, Jose Segura is driven and determined to succeed. Having earned his master's degree in criminal justice, his dream is to continue rising in the ranks of the police force and to teach criminal justice classes to others.
Segura has worked hard to get where he is today. During his undergraduate studies, he worked full time as a Bellaire police officer and carried a full load of classes. He managed to earn all A's during his heaviest load of six courses. He also managed to earn his undergraduate degree in three and a half years—an impressive feat while working full time. On top of this, Segura and his wife, Tracie, were married two years ago. Also a UHD student, Tracie expects to graduate by 2013.
"It's chance that I became a police officer" Segura states. A buddy asked him to go to an orientation to learn more about becoming a police officer. "I didn't have any intentions of doing it," Segura said. But then he discovered that he could, and the police force wanted him. He saw the possibilities for the future and has pursued it relentlessly since.
Segura is an excellent role model and smiles as he shares something he overheard: His 13 year old nephew wants to be just like his uncle Jose, and join the police force.
